SHSAT Test Prep

SHSAT Exam Information

The SHSAT or Specialized High Schools Admissions Test is a high school entrance exam taken by eighth and ninth grade students to get into certain high schools.


During this 3 hour exam, students are evaluated based on their understanding in areas of English and Mathematics comprehension.

Over 30,000 students take the SHSAT exam every year and only about 5,000 of these students are accepted to a school of their choice.
Students taking this exam are all competing for acceptance to any one of the desired schools listed below:

  • Staten Island Technical High School

  • Stuyvesant High School

  • Brooklyn Latin School

  • Brooklyn Technical High School

  • High School of American Studies at Lehman College

  • High School for Math, Science and Engineering at City College

  • Queens High School for the Sciences at York College

  • Bronx High School of Science

Math Parts of the Exam:

The math part of the exam is 57 questions.​

​

There are 5 grid-in questions​​ along with 52 multiple choice word problems and computational questions.

English Parts of the Exam:

The verbal part of the exam is 57 multiple choice questions.

​

​There are 20 Revising and Editing questions​​, 5-8 standalone questions with 2 passages containing 6-8 questions each, and​ 6 reading passages with 5-7 questions per reading passage.
